he 1982 Pan Oceanic 43 was built for adventure. Known for its rugged construction, seaworthy design, and reputation as a capable long-range cruising yacht, the Pan Oceanic 43 has spent decades carrying owners across coastlines, through island chains, and on unforgettable offshore passages. While these classic trawlers were built to go the distance, many still feature original sleeping accommodations that leave something to be desired. That’s exactly why this owner decided it was time to bring modern comfort aboard with a custom mattress upgrade designed specifically for their unique berth configuration.

The master berth aboard this Pan Oceanic 43 featured a unique shape that required not only a custom mattress but also a hinged design and removable insert piece for easier access and functionality. For this project, we built one of our most popular marine mattresses: The Commodore 7″ Latex Mattress in Medium Density. The result was a beautiful custom fit that maximized comfort without sacrificing access to the storage spaces beneath the berth. The hinged construction allows the mattress to move with the boat’s existing platform while the insert piece creates a seamless sleeping surface when in place. Constructed with a supportive 6″ latex core and wrapped in ultra-soft bamboo quilting, The Commodore was designed to deliver exceptional comfort while standing up to the unique demands of life aboard a yacht.
